Stewartstown Furniture
pa landscapes, comments - (6)
This is a charcoal drawing of a tower I pass by at least once a day. It is in the heart of Stewartstown, behind to main street. One this particular the day, the sky was gray and dark and the tower cut in the sky almost like a silhouette. On a sunny day you can read the type on the tower, "STEWARTSTOWN FURNITURE".
Star Barn

This painting is of a barn near my house. I am not sure if the owners ever light the star, but I always drive by wondering what it might look like.

Time Was

The barns and outbuildings of PA tell a tale of time. It's a story few people care about. Our farm lands and barns are disappearing at a fast pace. New houses are built within weeks. Once rural areas have been replaced with cookie cutter perfect homes.
This barn stands as a reminder of the more rural times in PA. The white paint on the barn is failing in some areas, revealing the blood red underneath. I find the red uncomfortable, maybe because of blood. The barn stands alone, waiting for its time to be replaced with a new modern home.
Storm Front
pa landscapes, comments - (1)
A recent storm came. You could watch the sky change from blue to almost blackish grey. The storm made the day become dark. The rain is an important part of farming here in southern PA. The farmers have just tilled the land and planted the new corn. This was a dark storm, but welcoming at the same time. The little spring peepers started chirping thinking it might be evening. In this painting I wanted to capture the power and strong force behind the storm. I wanted to show how small we are compared to the greatness of mother nature.
Andy's Barn

Andy Grimes Barn on a Sunday Morning late fall. I was delivering some furniture to Andy when I noticed the new star on his old barn. I was taken by the glow of the star and the storm looming just off in the distance. I love the sky before a storm. The paynes grey to blue feel against the tree tops. Most of my watercolor paintings are of the land and the sky. Our barns and farmlands are fast disappearing. These aged barns tell a story of a different time.
